Man Utd confirm Kone stable after head injury forces match abandoned

Manchester United have delivered a reassuring update on midfielder Sekou Kone after the teenager suffered a serious head injury that forced their U21 National League Cup match at Tamworth to be abandoned. The 19-year-old Mali youth international is now conscious, stable and communicating with the club's medical team.

The incident occurred during the first half at Tamworth's Lamb Ground on Wednesday night when Kone clashed heads with an opponent while defending in his own box. He received treatment on the pitch for around 15 minutes before being taken off on a stretcher with a mask placed on his face.

Medical update brings relief

Manchester United confirmed in an official statement: "We can confirm Sekou is conscious, stable and communicating with United's medical team. He has been taken to hospital, as a precaution, for further checks. Everybody at the club wishes him a speedy recovery."

The match was initially suspended before being abandoned completely. Reports suggested that teams were waiting for a replacement ambulance to arrive at the stadium before a restart could take place.

Rising talent's promising trajectory

Kone joined Manchester United from Malian club Guidars FC for around £1 million a year ago and has quickly impressed at youth level. The midfielder was part of the squad that travelled to the United States for pre-season, featuring as a substitute against ASEAN All Stars and Hong Kong.

Manager Ruben Amorim has already recognised Kone's potential, naming him on the bench for Premier League matches against Tottenham and Everton. United are considering securing a loan move to further the youngster's development.

Manchester United's U21s compete in Group A of the National League Cup alongside Brackley, Rochdale and Solihull Moors. Wednesday's abandoned fixture will need to be rearranged at a later date.

Tamworth FC also issued a statement expressing their support: "Due to the medical situation, we are forced to abandon tonight's fixture, details will be revealed in due course. We would like to wish safe travels to all the Man United fans, staff and players. We especially wish Sékou Koné a speedy recovery."
