Ruben Amorim has suggested Mason Mount could switch back to central midfield if Manchester United fail to reinforce the area ahead of Sunday's Premier League opener against Arsenal. The United manager indicated he remains satisfied with his current squad options despite ongoing concerns about depth in the middle of the park.

United have all but conceded defeat in their efforts to prise Carlos Baleba from Brighton this summer and they currently have only four out-and-out central midfielders. Toby Collyer is about to join West Brom on loan, while Casemiro's contract expires next year and Kobbie Mainoo and Manuel Ugarte have only lined up ten times together in central midfield.

Manager backs current options

When asked if he wanted to recruit a midfielder, Amorim replied: "I'm really happy with our players, they are working really well, we have different players for that position, so we are prepared to win any game with our players. Maybe Mason Mount is a player that can play in that position if we want something different. But then we are going to find out during the season. But we have players to cope and win games in the Premier League."

Bruno Fernandes is expected to start in midfield against Arsenal, while Casemiro started in three of United's five pre-season games. Ugarte and Mainoo were paired together for the win against West Ham United in New Jersey and the draw with Everton in Atlanta.

Striker situation uncertain

Rasmus Hojlund faces an uncertain future after being dropped to the bench against Everton and remaining an unused substitute in the final pre-season friendly against Fiorentina. The striker is open to joining AC Milan following the arrival of fellow striker Benjamin Sesko, who arrived at Carrington for training on Wednesday.

Hojlund could be omitted from the United matchday squad against Arsenal as Joshua Zirkzee has resumed team training. When asked about Hojlund's future, Amorim said: "He's one more option. We will see. We are focused on this game and Rasmus is still our player."
